  1. Top Gear Live Belgium!

On Sunday 28th April I was in Antwerp in Belgium with the Top Gear Live team again. This time in a bigger arena with 12,000 people watching each show! The shows were packed out and the atmosphere was electric. I had a slightly tougher entrance into the arena, heading down through the audience and then over a barrier where the stairs were just 2 feet wide (with members of the audience inches from me) – getting onto the rail and into the arena was a bit tricky! In the first show I nearly missed the toughest move onto the roof of one of the vans. The audience gasped as I nearly fell but then I managed to hold it and had a huge cheer when I made it onto on the roof of the van on my back tyre. Have to say it was one of the highlights of the weekend. It is great working with the Paul Swift Stunt Driving Team. Such professionals – they get it perfect every time. I also had a second role in the show; dressed as a centurion I drove in in a chariot that was attached to four-linked mopeds and handed it over to Jeremy Clarkson to race around in.
Looking forward to the next show already! Bring on South Africa!

    Cheers, Andrei

  2. Tog Gear Live Amsterdam!

So, on Friday 26th April and Saturday the 27th, I was at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam with the Top Gear crew. It’s a great new venue with seating for over 8,000 people a show! We did three shows in 2 days to huge audiences. It went really well and we had a great reaction from the crowd. Being in a massive arena is always difficult and especially when you have such a short, intense routine. But with the crowd going wild it always makes you ride well! Big thanks to the crew for being legends and having a really good laugh!

    Thanks, Andrei

  3. Latest video… into the light…..

So, Summer is coming and I have been out in the sun! I spent some time down in France training and here is a little video from a well-known trial area near Marseille. Huge thanks to trial-inside.com for letting me stay and making some great photos of the time there. I had quite a bad injury while riding in this video after a crash in Holland the week before, but still feel it was a good bit of training. Hope you all enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed riding there!

    Thanks, Andrei.

  4. 7th at the UCI Trials World cup in Germany!

So, it was a massively wet competition to start the international season off! As I didnt compete last year, except for the World Championships in Switzerland, I started off as number 28, so had to ride qualification round. Only the top 15 rider qualify and go through to the semi-finals where they compete against the top 10 seeded riders. I was quite happy with my result in the qualifying as the sections were challenging and the weather made it really tough. I placed 2nd just behind previous world champion Vincent Hermance, just 4 points separating us. I was also happy that my second lap was the best lap of anyone competing. This secured my place in the semi-finals.

For the semi-finals the sections were much harder and its always much more challenging having the other top 10 riders against you. Despite having some very silly mistakes and getting 5’s instead of cleans, I still qualified 7th on the same points as Giacamo coustellier from france and just ahead of Jack Carthy, the current UK champion. To make the final was great, not many riders ever get to compete in a world cup final despite training for many years.

The final was just a few hours after the semi-finals had finished, so with a quick check over the bike and some food, it was straight back to warm up again. The sections were proving very difficult for the 20″ class and Benito ross finished in 1st place on 48 marks out of a possible 60! which shows the crazy level of the competition. The organisers eased the secations off slightly for the 26″, but it was still a mixture of near impossible moves in not only challenging but very dangerous and upredictable conditions. in some sections the wheels locked up all togther with mud! Gilles Coustellier decided half way round the second lap to retire from the competition in protest of the sections. This was a feeling strongly felt by all riders.

So overall, I placed 7th in the opening round of the World Cup and I look forward to the next round in Walbrzych, Poland in about a month.

Thanks to Trial Inside for the photo, and all the others that have helped this weekend! And of course a huge thanks to my sponsors Echo Trials bikes!

Andrei had a great ride in his favourite training area in the world - Portland Bill in Dorset! Despite getting to travel around the world with his bike and ride in many amazing locations, Andrei always loves a sunny day on the huge rocks on the south coast on England.

Andrei is on the April page in the 2013 Cirque Bijou Calendar. This is a great shot taken by Claudiu, a top free-runner and photographer from london. The shot was taken during a practice run for a big show at the National Theatre last year in London with Cirque Bijou.
